At Legendary Games we take pride in expanding the world of myth, legend, folklore, and mythology in RPGs by bringing the amazing diversity and variety of real-world myths and legends alongside the products of pure imagination. As part of that process, we seek to engage people with deep roots in the cultures represented in our Legendary Bestiary series, both for the sake of representation and for inspiration and accurately bringing these creatures to life in the context of RPGs! Across our Latin American Monsters, Asian Monsters, and Mediterranean Monsters, we’ve sought out and worked with 50 authors, artists, and consultants with roots in 23 countries across those regions, and it has made those books incredibly rich resources for expanding your game. Many have continued to be regular contributors to other product lines across Legendary Games, and we always are on the lookout for new talent to become part of our creative team.
We are now looking forward to creating a pair of new bestiaries in the second half of 2024. The first is African Monsters, exploring the vast and diverse folklore of every part of this immense continent. The second is tentatively titled Ancient Monsters, as it is focused on the myths and legends of southwestern Asia, the core of which will include creatures from ancient civilizations in Mesopotamia and Persia, as well as potentially surrounding cultures of the region throughout its history like the Turks, Arabs, and Hebrews. Exactly which cultures we ought to include in that book and how to best title the bestiary will be part of the conversation with our contributors.
We’ve conducted a lot of preliminary research, curating potential creature lists and amassing references where we can find them. Sometimes those are abundant, sometimes not, but we are laying a foundation for these books as we did with our previous books of monsters drawn from the real-world. What we want to do now is continue to expand and diversify our team with contributors whose roots are in Africa and Southwestern Asia.
